![]() So many lifted trucks add fender flares because a negative offset my cause tires and wheels to protrude beyond the wheel well, but that's all part of the off road look, right? Black Rhino dealers are experts at issues such as these and can recommend the right tire and wheel combination. Be aware that with a negative offset turning radius may increase and there will be more leverage on the lugs, bearings, spindles, and axle housing. It's a way to create room for a larger tire. That's why Black Rhino off-road rims feature an array of negative offsets. For off roaders, when switching to aftermarket off-road wheels this means that you'll require a wheel with a negative offset. When you go to a larger tire, the wheel backspacing needs to change so that the bigger tire won't contact the aforementioned items. Most stock wheels have a positive offset. Negative offset, on the other hand, means that the center of the wheel is moved away from the vehicle. Positive offset means that the center of the wheel is moved towards the vehicle. Offset defines the distance from the exact center of the rim to the outer edges of the rim. Okay, what does that all mean? Backspacing is the distance from the inside bolting surface of the rim to the outer edge of the inboard side of the rim. The way to avoid this is to make sure you have wheels with the proper offset and backspacing for the tire you'd like to run on your truck. Switching to a different wheel-and-tire combination, you may find that rubbing can occur between these items and the wheel and/or tire during standard steering maneuvers or suspension articulation. ![]() Consider this: New, stock, your truck or SUV came fitted with wheels carefully designed by engineers to allow for adequate clearance between the wheel and tire and components such as tie-rod ends, brake calipers, fender wells, the frame, and other exposed components. They got that right, as long as it keeps going like it has for the past 10 years, it might come true. For those stock and lifted trucks owners who believe adventure begins where the road ends, Black Rhino offers a collection of off road wheels featuring the wide range of offsets to enable you to achieve the footprint that's right for you.įitting the right tire and wheel combination is critical, and Black Rhino wants to be sure you choose the right off-road rims. My boy says that hes going to bury me with my astro van. Overall this vehicle has paid for itself 3 times already and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. Gas mileage is good, averaging around 20 mpg with loads of city and freeway driving. ![]() During the winter with snow and ice on the ground even when the limited slip engages it doesn't do much, so this van can get a bit tricky while driving during the winter time. My van has the limited slip which doesn't work as well as they describe, at least for this van anyways. All I've replaced is the battery, alternator, 2 fuel pumps and a speed sensor. This thing just keeps going, with 250,000 miles on it, still drives great, and still starts up on those cold 20 degree mornings just fine. by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and I'm 64 years old. It is quiet inside and overall is comfortable to drive.Īs far as reliability. I've noticed with the rear seats out the rear leafs do ride a bit stiff, but while the seats are in, the ride quality is good in the rear. The ride quality is very good, absorbs bumps very nicely and is always in control. ![]() It will pull a 5k pound trailer if needed, which is enough to haul simple stuff around or a small boat. The main selling point for the astro van was the room and comfort because of its box shaped design.Īs far as performance its a minivan, braking is good, but doesn't have much get up and go. I ordered it custom with the full reclining individual seat benches for the 2 rows, which are very comfortable and gave every one of my kids their own seat and storage area when we would go places. We needed a bigger vehicle to haul us around and after test driving a suberban and the astro van the astro van had more room and with the seats removed a 7ft bed. We use to jam pack into a 1984 Toyota 4x4 which has 280k miles and has gone everywhere our family has gone, and we still have it. Bought my Astro van new in 2000 to haul my family of 6 everywhere. ![]()
